Fakhrul vows to bring back Tarique to form

Pledging that they would release Khaleda Zia, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said the party would bring back its acting chairman Tarique Rahman back to the country and "liberate democracy".

His comments came after after the BNP leader flanked by party colleagues paid homage to the martyrs at the National Memorial in Savar on Saturday morning, reports The Daily Star.

"We are paying homage to the martyrs after 50 years of independence. At the same time, we have taken an oath that we will liberate democracy again in the same way that we liberated the country 50 years ago through the War of Liberation," said Fakhrul.

"We will bring Tarique Rahman back to the country and establish a neutral government through an election for the people of this country," he added.

"We will establish a state of the people and it will be a truly democratic and free state," he also said.

Charged in a number of cases, Tarique Rahman has been living in the UK since 2008.
