Action will be taken against those involved in physically assaulting Hero Alam, Election Commissioner Mohammad Alamgir said today.
“The Hero Alam incident is an injustice, and steps are underway to take action against those involved,” the election commissioner said at a post-election briefing in front of journalists at the Election Commission building.
He said that today’s by-election was held in a fair and peaceful manner. “I haven`t seen any incident of unrest so far. In Dhaka, 14 to 15 percent voting was recorded… Something happened in a polling centre, that doesn’t mean there was chaos.”
He added that the Election Commission was satisfied with the peaceful vote.
Responding to a remark that the Election Commission has become a “part of a political party,” EC Alamgir said, “Everyone has the right to say such things in a democratic country. People will decide whether we have become an organ of a party or not.”
