45% vote cast in Khulna, 50% in Barisal: CEC

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal said that Khulna and Barisal City Corporation elections were held in an overall orderly and joyful atmosphere.

He told this to the reporters at the Agargaon election building in the capital after the polling of the two cities today. 

Apart from this, the CEC also said that immediate action has been taken against the troublemakers in Barishal.

Earlier in the afternoon, Election Commissioner (EC) Brigadier General Ahsan Habib Khan said that the polling in Barisal and Khulna City Corporation elections is being held smoothly. So far no complaint has been received from anyone in the election.

Expressing the expectation of increasing voter turnout in this election, he said, there are no complaints in the election except for minor errors in the EVMs. Besides, 289 centers are being monitored by the Election Commission through 2310 CC cameras in Khulna City Corporation elections. In Barishal City Corporation election, 126 centers are being monitored through 1146 CC cameras.

Election Commissioner Ahsan Habib also said that electronic voting machines (EVMs) may have mechanical faults. But the alternative machine is kept, the problem is solved immediately.

Polling started at 8 am and ended at 4 pm in a peaceful and festive atmosphere. Barishal and Khulna City Corporation centers saw a large turnout of voters. Most of them are women. This is the first time young voters are expressing their enthusiasm by voting in EVM. Meanwhile, the law and order forces are active to keep the environment clean.

This is the first time in Khulna and Barishal city that the vote was taken in EVM. Each center had tight security. Besides, officials were monitoring the polling situation from the capital‍‍`s Agargaon election building through CCTV cameras.

Khulna City Corporation (KCC) Election

Votes were taken in 1 thousand 732 polling booths of 289 polling stations in 31 wards of Khulna city. 2,310 CC cameras have been installed for all time monitoring of polling stations.
In this election, the total number of voters in 289 polling stations is 5 lakh 35 thousand 529 people. Among them 2 lakh 66 thousand 696 are female voters and 2 lakh 68 thousand 833 are male voters. The election results will be announced at the District Arts Academy Auditorium.

In Khulna, 5 people are contesting for the post of mayor and 136 people for the post of councilor in 31 general wards and 39 people for the post of councilor in 10 reserved wards. Meanwhile, two councilors have been elected unopposed in wards 13 and 24 of the city.

Barishal City Corporation (BCC) Election

Voting took place in 894 polling booths of 126 polling stations in this election. The entire election process is covered by 1 thousand 146 CC cameras. The number of voters is 2 lakh 76 thousand 298 people.

Apart from this, 118 general and 42 reserved councilor candidates are participating in 30 wards of Barishal City.
