Rohingya teen stabbed to death in Cox’s Bazar

A 16-year-old Rohingya boy was stabbed to death on Friday at a market in Cox's Bazar's Ukhiya upazila, purportedly by another Rohingya youth.

According to Sheikh Mohammad Ali, officer-in-charge (OC) of Ukhiya Police Station, the deceased was identified as Abdul Hafez, son of Abul Kalam of Kutupalong Lombashia Refugee Camp.

The victim and the offender both had been working at a meat shop close to the Cox's Bazar-Teknaf highway in Kutupalong Bazar, the police official told the media.

Around 8:00am, according to the OC, the two boys engaged into a quarrel while working at the shop.

Abdul Hafez was badly hurt when the 16-year-old coworker, whose identity has not yet been established, stabbed him.

According to the OC, Hafez was brought to a local MSF Hospital where medical staff pronounced him dead.

"The suspect fled the scene immediately," the OC added.

The body was afterwards taken to the mortuary at Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital for an autopsy.

Case filing preparations are in progress and the drive to catch the perpetrator, underway, added Sheikh Mohammad Ali.
