RCC polls: Awami League’s Liton leading

There is no candidate even close to the boat candidate in the votes received by these two centers.

The Awami League candidate for the mayoral post AHM Khairuzzaman Liton is ahead in the Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) election.

So far, the number of votes in 19 centers have been announced.

Election Returning Officer Md Delwar Hossain is announcing the results from the district Shilpakala Academy auditorium since Wednesday afternoon.

Liton got 19,514 votes with the boat symbol. Jaker Party‍‍`s Latif Anwar got 1,290 votes.

For the first time in RCC history, the election was held through EVMs at all 155 centers. There was also CCTV Cameras at each center.

There were 351,982 voters to exercise their right of franchise in 1,153 rooms of the 155 polling centers in 30 wards.

A total of 161 candidates are in the election race. Of them, three for mayor, 112 for general councilors in 30 wards and 46 for 10 reserved seats for women councilors.

The mayoral candidates are the Awami League-nominated candidate, former mayor AHM Khairuzzaman Liton (boat), Jatiya Party‍‍`s Saiful Islam Swapan (plough) and Jaker Party‍‍`s Latif Anwar (rose).

Around 3,500 members of the police, 400 from the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), 200 from the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and 1,860 Ansar members will discharge election duties.
