JMB leader jailed for 20 years in Khulna

A court in Khulna sentenced Khulna divisional JMB chief Ziaur Rahman alias Sagar alias Sabbir to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment in an explosive case on Monday, reports BSS. 

The court also fined him Tk 20,000, in default, to suffer six months more in jail.  

Khulna additional district and sessions judge SM Ashiqur Rahman handed down the verdict in a crowded court in presence of the accused after examining 13 witnesses.

According to the prosecution, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-6 arrested Sabbir on December 29 in 2005 from his residence located in the city's Miapara areab under Khulna Sadar Police Station.

On the following day, a RAB team conducted a raid at Bairagipara under Daulatpur police station and seized a huge number of explosive materials.

On December 30, 2005, Younus Ali, deputy director of RAB-6, filed an explosive case against the JMB leader in this connection.  On January 19, 2006, sub-inspector Jahedul Islam Sarker pressed a charge sheet against him.
