Jahangir Alam, suspended mayor of Gazipur City Corporation, got back his lost AL post for controversial remarks on Bangabandhu and the Liberation War martyrs.
General Secretary Obaidul Quader signed the letter informing Zahangir about the conditions of the organization on Jan 1, which Zahangir received and thanked party chief Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
He became the first mayor of the Gazipur City Corporation in 2013 election. He was also the general secretary of the Gazipur Metropolitan Awami League.
The Awami League expelled him in November 2021 for “breach of organizational discipline and working against party interests” after his audio comment spread in late September. The government suspended him as mayor.
Awami League activists filed at least two cases against him over the remarks.
