Charges pressed against Evaly CEO Rassel, 2 others

Dhanmodi police have pressed charges against Mohammad Rassel, managing director and Chief Executive Officer of e-commerce platform Evaly, and two others in a fraud case.

Sub-Inspector Md Anisur Rahman of Dhanmondi Police Station, also the investigation officer of the case, on Saturday submitted the charge sheet to the Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court.

The two other accused are-- Rassel's wife Shamima Nasrin, also chairman of Evaly, and its vice-president Abdullah Al Mamun alias Akash. Shamima is out on bail while Akash was shown fugitive in the charge sheet.

The IO appealed to the court to issue an arrest warrant against Akash as he did not get bail from any court.

The IO, meanwhile, dropped names of three others -- Evaly's manager Jahedul Islam Hemoy, its high official Nasir Ahmed and bike department officer Sakib Rahman -- from the charge sheet as their correct addresses were not found.

On October 7 last year, Monir Hossain of Uttara Paschim, filed the complaint with the CMM Court against Rassel, Shamima and four others on charges of misappropriating Tk, 2,36,000.

The case was registered with Dhanmondi Police Station on October 17 the same year following a court order.

According to the case statement, Monir gave Tk 2,36,000 to the Evaly for three motorbikes on August 24 last year. But the company neither supplied those motorbikes nor returned the money, the complainant added.

Earlier Rassel and Shamima were charged in two other fraud cases filed with Gulshan and Dhanmondi police stations.

On September 16 last year, Rapid Action Battalion arrested the couple during a raid at their flat in the capital's Mohammadpur after a customer filed a case with Gulshan Police Station over embezzlement of Tk 3.1 lakh.
