21 rescued, fisherman missing as trawler capsizes at Mongla port

A trawler capsized, leaving one fisherman missing and 21 others were rescued on Monday evening at Mongla port as cyclone Sitrang hit Bangladesh.

Md Nayan (28) of Bhola has been identified as the missing fisherman, according to Captain Shahin Mazid, the harbour master of Mongla Port Authority.

The trawler sank in the Fairway Buoy area of the port amid high waves during the storm at 7.30 pm, authority confirmed.

"All the rescued fishermen are from the Monpura area in Bhola and they will be brought to Mongla port through a pilot boat from the ship," said Harbour Master Captain Shahin.
