Police held a man in connection with Monday`s attack on Islami Andolan Bangladesh mayoral candidate Muft Syed Faizul Karim, while he was visiting a polling centre of Barishal City Corporation (BCC).
Mainul Islam Swapan, a resident of the Chaumatha in Ward 22 of the city, was apprehended by Kotwali police last night for his alleged involvement in the attack.
Faizul Karim verbally complained to the BMP Commissioner`s office that he had been attacked while visiting the "Sabera Khatun Girls Secondary School" in Ward 87 of the city, according to a press conference by the Barishal Metropolitan Police.
Swapan was held for his involvement in the event, as determined by the preliminary inquiry, as a result of Faizul`s verbal complaint, according to police officials.
