A petition has been submitted to the High Court, requesting orders to cease cutting of trees nationwide, including in the capital city of Dhaka, with the aim of environmental preservation.

The petition filed by Human Rights and Peace for Bangladesh, on behalf of senior lawyer Manzil Morshed, urged for this directive in light of recent reports of rampant tree cutting across various regions amidst soaring temperatures and precarious living conditions.

The application for the writ petition will be heard by Justice M. Khosruzzaman and Justice K.M. Zahid Sarwar Kajal at the High Court bench.

"Ensuring a healthy quantity of greenery is imperative for the survival of Dhaka city. However, the diminishing number of trees each day, coupled with the recent rise in temperatures, is making human life more vulnerable, thereby violating the right to a healthy environment," stated Manzil Morshed.

He further emphasized, "The indiscriminate felling of trees nationwide is eliciting adverse reactions on the environment. Failure to halt this will result in environmental degradation in Bangladesh, severely impacting people‍‍`s right to survival."
