Chhatra League expels 5 of it's women members in connection with IU ragging

The central body of Bangladesh Chhatra League, the student wing of the ruling Awami League, on Wednesday expelled five female members including a leader and four activists of its Islamic University unit who were found involved in torturing and humiliating a fresher at a hall of  the university in Kushtia.

Those expelled from the organization are IU BCL unit vice-president Shanjida Chowdhury Ontora, its activists Tabassum Islam, Israt Jahan Mim, Halima Khatun Urmi and Moyabia Jahan.

A press release, signed by Chhatra League president Md Saddam Hussain and its general secretary Sheikh Wali Asif Enan, was issued in this regard.

Chhatra League made the decision against them for violating rules and regulations, breaching discipline and tarnishing the organisation's image, said the press release.

They took the decision two days after the probe body formed by the Islamic University unit Chhatra League sent its investigation report to them through email.

The hall authority on Monday expelled the accused from the hall for their involvement in the incident.

On February 12 night, Fulpori Khatun, a first-year student of the Finance and Banking department, was tortured and intimidated by Ontora and her associates at Deshratna Sheikh Hasina Hall on the university campus.
