Time needed to amend labour law: Law minister

The government needs a reasonable amount of time to amend the labour law, according to Law Minister Anisul Huq.

"Bringing amendment to the labour law, which takes place through tripartite discussions, is a complicated process. However, the government is working speedily to amend this act within a reasonable time," he said.

Anisul was addressing the inauguration of the "Tripartite Discussion on Technical Note and Global Good Practice to Align Bangladesh Labour Laws with Selected International Labour Standards" at a hotel in the capital on Tuesday.

He said there is no ambiguity in the government's sincere attempt to ensure the international standard at the workplace of every labourer and to improve the labour sector as per their fundamental principles and rights.

The law minister informed that he has been placing the Bangladesh government's progress in improving the standard of labourers before the ILO governing body while representing Bangladesh in recent years.

Bangladesh government has already amended the Bangladesh Labour Rules and formulated EPZ Labour Rules, the minister added.
