Rush in forming EC won’t be wise: Law Minister

Law, Judiciary and Parliamentary affairs minister Anisul Huq said, it would not be wise forming the election commission hurriedly.

The minister was responding to queries of reporters at his Gulshan office in the capital on Thursday (November 18).

Earlier a team of Shushashoner Jonno Nagorik (Shujan) led by its secretary Dr. Badul Alam Majumder handed over a copy of ‘The draft of election commission appointment act’ produced by the organisation to the law minister.

Sujan secretary Badiul Alam suggested formulating of election commission act issuing an ordinance. In reply the law minister said, formulating a law keeping the national parliament aside would not be an appropriate move.

“The council will be held in January. The incumbent commission will expire in February. That’s why formulating EC forming act is not possible in this short time,” the Anisul Huq said.

He said, “The rule of search committee to form EC is not a law, but very closer to be. Because, the president forms the search committee.”
