Restrictions likely to be eased ahead of Eid-ul-Adha: Minister

State Minister for Public Administration Farhad Hossain said, restrictions might be in place during the upcoming Eid-ul-Adha event if the coronavirus situation improves. However, government is planning to ease the ongoing lockdown protocols a bit considering the trade of sacrificial animals.

The state minister came up with the remarks while talking to reporters at his office in the secretariat on Sunday (July 11). Necessary directives will be given later on July 13, he said.

The ministry sources said decision to open public transport, shopping mall and shop on condition is likely to be taken. Everything will be finalised on Tuesday (July 13).

Eid-ul-Adha, the 2nd largest festival of Muslim community, will be observed on July 21.

“If we want to curb the infection, we have to continue this process (lockdown) in phases. We have cattle market. We are thinking of how the issues can be coordinated in line with safety guidelines. Discussions are on the table to device how the cattle markets can be run in control,” Farhad Hossain said.

“Directives will be given that none is allowed to leave workplace. Restrictions will be imposed on public movement. Because, the experience of last Eid is not good. Coronavirus spread in villages due to Eid travellers. The villages are not safe anymore,” the state minister furthered.

Terming the Eid festival as a challenge he said, “We have so many recommendations in our hand. We will hold a meeting before taking the final decision. We will take suggestions form the Covid-19 National Advisory Committee.”

Gazette notification will be issued on Tuesday (July 13) following meeting with the Prime Minister, added he.
