Two dead in polling violence in Chattogram, Manikganj

At least one person has been reportedly killed as polling violence erupted in Anwara upazila in Chattogram.

The incident occurred at ward 7 in Chatri union parishad around 12 pm Wednesday, an election official said.

The deceased was identified as Omkar Dutta (38) son of Nepal Dutta from Sinhora area.

Confirming the matter Officer in Charge (OC) of Anwara police station Didarul Islam said, “The clash broke out as supporters of two member aspirants attempted to occupy polling centre. The violence left Omkar Dutta injured. He was taken to hospital where he succumbed later.”

The body has been sent to the hospital mortuary for conducting an autopsy.

Locals said, slain Omkar sustained critical injury after supporters of Apple symbol attacked. He was rushed to Chattogram Medical College Hospital where doctors pronounced him dead.

Meanwhile, another woman died in polling clash at Doulatpur in Manikganj.

The deceased was identified as Salma Khatun (50), hails from Bachamara village in the area.  

Confirming the matter a Shibaloy police official said, “The clash broke out abruptly on Wednesday while the voting was underway. The woman fell into the clash and died.”
