Pandemic shadows Christmas celebrations for second straight year

The season of Christmas is marked by giving, lights, carols, and feasts with family and friends. On this day, Jesus Christ was born in a humble Bethlehem abode, and angels were all in glory of the child!

Although some celebrations such as the marching drum parade, and other Nativity Church street celebrations have returned to biblical town of Bethlehem, the pandemic has restricted Christmas celebrations across the world.

Like in other parts of the world, Churches in Dhaka have been lighted up and decorated to welcome the followers of Chirst. The day is being observed with religious fervour.

Christmas masses begin on Christmas Eve (the night before Christmas), henceforth, prayers and celebrations began last night in Dhaka, Chattogram, Barishal and other parts of the country.

Homes of Christian families have decorated and illuminated representational Christmas trees in Dhaka to keep gifts for their loved ones beneath the tree.

All the Christmas celebrations have been gloomed since the pandemic hit the world. However, this year, Christmas is being celebrated on  a limited scale.

The government have urged everyone to stay home and celebrate the day. People were seen attending mass on Christmas Eve maintaining Covid-19 health protocols. All clad in new clothes were seen wearing masks.
