On Monday night, at around 8:15 PM, a newly elected Union parishad member from Sundoli was killed by miscreants. The deceased was elected UP member just 2 weeks ago.
The incident took place on the road next to Harishpur Government Primary School in Sundali Union.
The deceased has been identified as Uttam Kumar Sarkar, the son of the late Ashanta Sarkar of Harishpur village in Sundoli union.
According to locals and the victim's family sources, on Monday night, on the way back home to Harishpur village from Sundoli Bazar, he was stopped by the miscreants who were already hiding to attack him near the Harishpur Primary School.
He was later shot in the chest. When the bullet pierced his chest, Uttam Sarkar fell to the ground and died on the spot. At the sound of gunfire, the villagers fled to the scene, however the killers fled by then.
Abhaynagar Police Station Officer-In-Charge (OC) AKM Shamim Hasan said police have reached the spot.
Uttam Kumar Sarkar was elected as a UP member of Ward No. 1 of Sundoli Union Parishad of Abhaynagar Upazila in the Union Parishad elections held on 28 December.
