Hitting Padma Bridge: State minister for Shipping smells a rat

State Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury has said that there is a deep 'conspiracy' in the incident of a ferry hitting a span of the under construction Padma Bridge. He made the remarks while talking to reporters at his office in the Secretariat on Tuesday (August 31st).

A ferry named Birshreshtha Jahangir hit the 'One B' span between poles 2 and 3 of the bridge on its way from Shimulia to Paturia on Tuesday.

Responding to a question from reporters, the state minister said, "I can find a deep conspiracy in today's incident. There is something behind this ... I have told our intelligence agencies, Senior Minister Obaidul Quader has also given instructions today. It must be thoroughly investigated and the mystery behind it must be revealed.”

He said that according to the height of the Padma Bridge, no boat should be hit in the span. Today it has happened, why has it happened? We have said that it needs to be thoroughly investigated. We are looking into the matter whether or not there is any other motive behind the incident.

Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury said, “Although the Padma Bridge authorities said they did not find any signs of injuries in the span. We saw in the video there was a push. They inspected the place and found no signs of injuries. If we investigate these, everything will come out. ”

It is to be noted that there have been several incidents of ferry collisions with the pillars of the Padma Bridge in August and the previous month.

On August 13, a ferry named Kakoli hit the 10th pillar of the bridge. Earlier, the ro-ro ferry Birshreshtha Jahangir hit the same pillar on August 9.
