Highway police holds 40 buses for defying Covid restrictions

Highway police has held 40 long-route buses in Gazipur for allegedly defying ongoing coronavirus restrictions. Legal actions will be taken, police said.

Talking to the media on Friday (August 6) Konabari highway police Officer in Charge Golam Faruk said, “Police took stern move at check posts in daytime due to the coronavirus restrictions. But, long-route buses ply in the night due to relaxation of rules.”

“Buses are charging three to four times extra fare. As many as 40 buses were held from different points at Dhaka-Tangail highway last night. Legal actions will be taken accordingly,” Golam Faruk said.

However, drivers and helpers of the buses said, “There were no passengers while the buses were held. The buses are just held, but no legal step is taken yet.”

Meanwhile, the passengers of the busses are freed. Police said, they reached destination in different way.
