Foreign Ministry claims news of withdrawing foreign diplomats' security is misleading

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has claimed that the news published in several media about the withdrawal of security of diplomats of various countries posted in Bangladesh are misleading. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs explained this by sending a press release today.

According to the press release, this misleading news regarding security withdrawal is not correct. Security is maintained at each embassy by members of the police force and police-provided gunmen are deployed for ambassadors.

The circular also said that Bangladesh respects international laws and customs for the security of foreign diplomats. Bangladesh Police always fulfills the important responsibility of security of foreign diplomats. But after an incident in Bangladesh a few years ago, some foreign diplomats were given extra manpower to assist with regular traffic movement, including vehicles.

In the notification of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, it is also said that currently the law and order situation in Bangladesh is normal and under control. So there is no requirement to provide them with additional security. Besides, this additional facility cannot be continued now to increase the scope of work of Bangladesh Police Force. No embassy of Bangladesh in any country in the world is provided with any facilities for extra security and traffic control in terms of movement.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported that several embassies have been asking such services recently. In order to accommodate all of them, the Ministry of Home Affairs established a smart team of  Bangladesh Ansar. Foreign diplomats can avail this facility at their own expense. The ministry mentioned in the press release that if any embassy wants to continue this benefit to Ansar members or wants to take additional benefits, it will be accepted in writing to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

This decision of the government will be communicated to all the foreign embassies of Bangladesh very soon, it has been mentioned in the press release of the ministry.
