Cumilla incident premeditated, intended to destabilise country's situation: Minister

The attacks and vandalism at different parts of the country following the alleged defamation of holy Quran in Cumilla was premeditated and intended to destabilize the situation in the country, said home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal.

He said, the perpetrators will be identified and arrested soon.

The home minister was addressing the reporters during a press conference held at his office in the secretariat on Sunday (October 17).

Mentioning the Bangladeshis as pious instead of fanatics the minister said, “The people of Bangladesh are follow their own religion peacefully. Who are beneficiaries of the Cumilla incident, who will cash this we know. We have seen many incidents, received many information. Certainly, we will uphold them once we get the evidence.”

“No follower of any religion can do such works. The heinous act was committed being politically motivated. We are thoroughly looking into the matter. Hopefully, we will be able to hold them after identification,” the minister furthered.

Asked on any foreign interference, Asaduzzaman said, “Several other incident took place in Chandpur, Noakhali, Cox’s Bazar and Feni followed by the mayhem in Cumilla. Casualties were reported in Hajiganj of Chandpur and Cox’s Bazar. You see various posts in facebook, we also. We have intelligence. We will be able to identify the perpetrators soon.”
