Clash in Narsingdi ahead of UP election leaves 3 dead; at least 50 injured

Three people have been shot dead in a clash between two factions of the ruling Awami League over the Alokbali Union Parishad (UP) election in the remote char area of ​​Narsingdi, according to a report published in Prothom Alo

The clash took place at Nekjanpur village of Alokbali Union around 5:30 am on Thursday (November 4). At least 50 people were injured in the incident.

The deceased have been identified as Ashraful (20), Amir Hossain (50) and Khushi Begum (55) of Nekjanpur village under Alokbali union.

When the three were brought to the emergency department of Narsingdi Sadar Hospital, the doctor on duty declared them dead. Among the injured, 22 are being treated at Narsingdi Sadar Hospital.

Police and locals said Asadullah had a long-running feud with the current chairman, Delwar Hossain Sarkar, over dominance in the Alokbali union. Shortly afterwards, supporters of both sides clashed with local weapons.

Delwar has been re-nominated for the post of chairman of Alokbali Union in the second phase of UP elections to be held on November 11.

On the other hand. Asadullah submitted his nomination papers as a rebel candidate. However, there are allegations that he was forced to withdraw his nomination papers on the last day of the withdrawal.
