621 more people detained over 'lockdown protocol violation'

As many as 621 people have been detained for allegedly defying lockdown protocols.

Additional Deputy Commissioner Iftekharul Islam of Dhaka Metropolitan Police confirmed the matter to The Report on Saturday (July 3) evening.

“During a joint drive of different law enforcing agencies, 621 people were held on the third day of the nationwide lockdown for violating the health guidelines that restricted coming out of home without any emergency,” Iftekharul Islam said.

“Apart from the detention, 346 people were fined worth taka 1 lakh 6 thousand 450 during mobile court operations for defying law,” added he.

Earlier on the first two days of the stricter shutdown, police held a total of 870 people for ‍reportedly going out of home without any emergency reason.
