The law enforcers have arrested three people over the theft at a jewelry shop in Karnaphuli Garden City in the capital along with 221 bhori of gold.
The detainees are—Shahid Matabbar alias Shahin (48), Shaishab Roy Suman (35) and Uttam Kumar (45).
Police said, Shahid Matabbar was arrested in Faridpur’s Nagarkanda area on Sunday. Based on information given by him, two other arrestees were detained from Barishal and Shakhari Bazar in the capital on Monday.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) additional commissioner KM Hafiz Akhtar said this during a press conference held at DMP Media Centre in the capital on Tuesday.

He said, “Huge amount of gold jewelry were stolen from two shops at Karnaphuli Garden City on 18 December. A case was filed with Ramna model police station to this connection. Later, the DB Ramna zonal team launched shadow investigation into the case.”
“The accused stole 700 bhori of gold from the jewelry shops. But, we found 221 bhori. They (accused) claimed to have lost some ornaments on the way,” the DMP official furthered.
