A statement by Saiful Islam, an Awami League-backed chairman candidate in the Basail Union Parishad elections in Munshiganj's Sirajdikhan Upazila, has recently gone viral on social media platform Facebook.
He has announced that if any activist dies campaigning for him in the election, he will pay 10 lakh takas to the deceased’s family. He will also bear the medical expenses if the campaigners are injured and admitted to the hospital.
Elections will be held on December 23 in 14 unions of Sirajdikhan upazila. Saiful Islam has been making such statements in various election discussion meetings and staff meetings ahead of the upcoming elections.
In the viral video, Saiful Islam is seen saying, 'If any worker dies while campaigning for my symbol, his family will be given 10 lakh takas. And if he is hospitalized after a fight, then I will bear the entire cost, I will also bear the cost of his family. '
