South Korea to take 100 Bangladeshi workers per week

South Korea will take 100 to 120 Bangladeshi workers per week from Bangladesh in 2023 through the country’s Employment Permit System (EPS) program.

In 2022, a record number of 5,891 Bangladeshi low and medium skilled workers went to Korea through EPS program.

The Korean embassy in Dhaka disclosed this through a press release on Monday.

After almost one and a half year suspension of admitting foreign EPS workers due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Korean government resumed taking the ESP workers in December 2021.

From 2008 to 2022, a total of 28,697 Bangladeshi workers went to Korea through the EPS.

Korea is a popular preferred destination for Bangladesh expatriate workers as they can earn a minimum of $1,420 monthly, the legally guaranteed minimum wage of Korea. The monthly salary can be over $2,000 even to $3,000 when overtime payment is combined, the press release said.

Moreover, the Government of the Republic of Korea encourages foreign workers to subscribe to four types of social security insurances, including accident insurance for foreign workers, it added.
