England, batting first after losing the toss, posted an imposing total in their second ICC World Cup 2023 match against Bangladesh on Monday in Dharamsala.

Opener Dawid Malan led the charge, notching an impressive 140 from just 107 balls including 16 fours and five sixes. England concluded their innings at 364 for 9 in 50 overs, with Mahedi Hasan claiming four wickets for Bangladesh.

This marked the fourth highest run tally Bangladesh has conceded in a World Cup match. The highest was 386, a record set by England in Cardiff in 2019. The other top totals against Bangladesh in World Cup history are 381 by Australia in 2019 in Nottingham, and 370 by India in 2011 in Mirpur.

During this formidable innings, Malan and Jonny Bairstow established a sturdy opening partnership, amassing 117 runs for the first wicket. Bairstow was eventually dismissed by Shakib Al Hasan. However, Bangladesh struggled to regain control, leaking runs on a surface favoring the batters.

Following Bairstow‍‍`s departure, Joe Root took the crease and contributed a brisk 82 off 68, maintaining pressure on the Bangladeshi bowling attack.

By the 40th over, England had reached 298 for three, hinting at the potential of surpassing 400 runs within the next 10 overs.

Despite the looming threat, Bangladesh managed to restrict England‍‍`s total under 400.

In the 42nd over, Shorfiul Islam claimed the wickets of Root and Liam Livingstone off two consecutive deliveries. Mahide secured the dismissal of Harry Brook in the 45th over, also taking the wickets of Sam Curran and Adil Rashid in the 47th and 49th overs, respectively.

In the end, England concluded at 364 for nine in their allotted 50 overs. Mahedi‍‍`s figures of 4 for 71 mark a career-best performance in ODIs, while Shoriful captured three wickets for 75 runs.
