Bangladesh women`s football team is the best in South Asia. On the other hand, men’s squad led by Jamal Bhuyan could not get past the group stage of South Asian Football Federation Championship.
Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) president Kazi Salahuddin believes that fitness is a major reason for the lack of performance of the national team at the international level.
The president of the organization spoke about the national team after an informal exchange of views on some issues with journalists in the afternoon at BFF building on Sunday.
According to the country`s top football figure, “In international matches of the national team, it often seems that 60% of the players are not fit to compete at that level.”
“Those who perform well at the domestic level are called upon to the national team. There is a difference between domestic league fitness and international level fitness,” he added.
He blamed the club system of domestic level football in this county.
