The verdict against BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman and his wife Zubaida Rahman in a case over amassing illegal wealth has been delivered following normal process, said Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud.
“Our government did not file this case. The case was filed by the caretaker government of BNP`s choice. If our government was vindictive, we would have filed the case, and we wouldn`t have to wait 14 years for a verdict, the verdict would have been delivered much earlier,” Hasan Mahmud, also Awami League Joint General Secretary, said.
He said these while exchanging views with journalists at the secretariat on Thursday afternoon.
“BNP held a press conference over the verdict. They have announced programmes today and tomorrow. But this case was not filed during our government. The case was filed during the previous caretaker government when Yazuddin was made president by Khaleda Zia,” said the minister.
Responding to BNP`s reaction after the verdict, the minister said, "BNP has no faith in anything in the law and court, they do not care about anything, only go to foreigners frequently."
“We don`t go to foreigners; foreigners come to us if they need to.
Replying to a question on bringing Tarique Rahman back home, the minister said, “We are in talks with the UK government.”
