Police today prevented the construction of the ruling Awami League`s stage in front of the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque`s south gate, as party workers were setting up the stage for tomorrow`s rally before getting authorization from the police to hold it there.
Obaidur Rahman, In-Charge of the Gulistan Police Outbox, stopped the work on the temporary stage around 3:45pm today.
He told the workers that they should stop working until the police issued a decision.
Obaidur declined to comment further on this matter.
Meanwhile, AL Office Secretary Biplab Barua told that they had approached police for authorization.
"They asked several questions, to which we responded. They will notify us of their decision as soon as possible. Until then, we have stopped construction work out of respect for them," he continued.
