Permission for Oct 28th rally is still under review: DMP Commissioner

On October 28, BNP, Awami League and Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami  called rallies in Nayapaltan, Gulistan and Shapla Chattar at Motijheel in the capital respectively.

DMP Commissioner Habibur Rahman spoke to reporters about the gathering of political parties.

He said, "Dhaka is a city of two crore population. Every application that came to us regarding rally is major road-centric. People‍‍`s movement is disrupted if rallies are conducted on the streets. We always try to do the rest of the work keeping the peace and comfort of the people of the city intact. In that case we have some judgment analysis regarding risk and safety. They are being reviewed. After the OC-AC-DC of the concerned police stations check the facts and report to us, then a decision will be taken whether to grant permission for rallies or not". 

DMP Commissioner said, "The political parties can hold rallies and they always hold rallies. Bangladesh is a democratic country, everyone has a chance to speak. We always prioritize public safety. The security of the people is kept intact by our force management system, keeping in mind the matter of the gathering, the police provide security".

"The police check post is a normal activity. We have regular check posts so that no one can carry weapons, explosives, carry out terrorist activities. Security measures are taken considering security threats in any assembly. Review threat assessments and develop security plans actions will be taken by conducting threat analysis in the next assembly as well. Any kind of anarchy will be resisted. DMP Commissioner Habibur Rahman expressed hope that no political party would break the rules", he added.
