Opposition Blockade: 5 buses set on fire in Dhaka on Wednesday

A bus was torched during the 2nd day of 3-day long blockade announced by opposition parties in Bangladesh

At least five buses were set on fire since Wednesday morning in parts of the capital amid the road, rail and waterway blockade enforced by the BNP, the Jamaat-e-Islami and their allies.

At around 9:08 pm, a staff bus from Green University was torched by unknown miscreants in Mirpur-12 area.

“Upon receiving the information, two units of Fire Service and Civil Defence rushed to the spot and doused the fire,” Fire Service and Civil Defence control room duty officer Ershad Hussain told UNB.

Miscreants set a passenger bus of ‘Boishakhi Paribahan’ on fire at 7:07pm, said Rozina Akter, duty officer of the Dhaka Fire Service and Civil Defence control room.

Another passenger bus of ‍‍`Welcome Paribahan‍‍` was torched in front of Shyamoli square on Wednesday.

The incident took place at around 6:00pm in the capital’s Shyamoli area, said Assistant Commissioner (Traffic - Mohammadpur zone) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Mohammad Imrul.

Two more buses were torched in Dhaka’s Mugda and Kafrul area this morning during the country-wide blockade that began on Tuesday.

According to the fire service, 21 cases of arson violence were reported across the country from Tuesday morning until Wednesday evening.
