Newly appointed Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting, Mohammad Ali Arafat, said that a framework is being considered on how to bring disinformation and rumors under accountability.
He said this in response to questions from journalists in the conference room of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting at the secretariat on Sunday afternoon.
According to the Minister of State for Information, disinformation is or is being spread via social media. We are all aware that social media frequently uses traditional media branding to spread misinformation.
The problem is, in preventing this propaganda, we think that the freedom of expression should not be hampered, the freedom of the media should not be hampered.
He said that since any issue spreads rapidly through social media, we must consider and act in new ways. We should create a framework for holding disinformation and rumors accountable. Because, in the end, if misinformation continues to thrive freely and openly, everything will fail.
