Khulna and Barishal City Corporation polls concluded

With a few minor instances, voting in Khulna and Barisal City Corporation elections has concluded. Polling stations for Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) were open from 8 am to 4 pm today. 

In the Barishal City Corporation election, there was an attack on Mufti Syed Muhammad Faizul Karim, the mayoral candidate of Islamic Movement Bangladesh. He complained to the Returning Officer and the Commissioner of Police in this incident. The incident took place during the visit to Sabera Khatun Girls Secondary School, Center No. 87, Ward No. 22.

Apart from this, allegations of attack on candidate Faizul Karim‍‍`s car have been made against the workers of Awami League supported candidate. Four of his supporters were injured. The incident took place at Quader Chowdhury School Center in Kaunia, Ward No. 2 of the city around 10 am.
Meanwhile, Kamrul Ahsan Rupon, an independent candidate of the ‍‍`table clock‍‍` symbol, complained that the agents were not allowed to enter the Barishal City Corporation election.

Of the voters, 137,489 are males, and 138,809 are females. Seven mayoral candidates, 118 general councilor candidates, and 42 reserved councillor candidates vied in the elections.

Of the 535,529 voters in Khulna 268,833 are males, and 266,696 are women.

A total of 180 candidates contested the election. Of them, five were contesting for the mayor‍‍`s post, 136 for the general councilor‍‍`s post and 39 for the reserved ward councilor‍‍`s post.
