The names of Parliament Leader, Deputy Leader, Speaker, Deputy Speaker and Chief Whip have been announced. The new parliament members have taken oath. The formation of the new cabinet is left now. The Secretary of the Council of Ministers said that preparations are underway to take oath of the new cabinet on Thursday at 7 pm.
Awami League leaders who are in charge have said that several senior politicians will not be included in the cabinet because of their age and incompetence. Additionally, some newly elected MPs will be included, and it is more probable that former officials would include.
There will be some new leaders in the cabinet who were previously members of parliament and have been elected this time. There is also a possibility of recruitment in technocrat quota.
However, the final decision will be taken by Awami League President Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. So nothing can be said for sure.
Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader said regarding this cabinet, "To form the cabinet is the authority of the parliament. How he will form the government and the cabinet, how he will form the government management team is his prerogative. I will not comment on this."
The responsibilities of the Ministries that may change are - Health, Industry, Commerce, Relief and Disaster, Local Government, Primary and Mass Education, Women and Child Affairs, Home Affairs and Liberation War Affairs, Lands, Public Works, Finance, Planning, Information and Environment.
According to a source of Awami League, Jahangir Kabir Nanak, a member of the presidium of the party elected from Dhaka-13 constituency, can get the responsibility of the local government ministry. Dr. Pran Gopal Datta may get the responsibility of Health Ministry. Zahid Malek is currently in charge of this ministry.
The source said that Abu Jafar Mohammad Shamim elected from Comilla-8 constituency is also going to get the responsibility of a ministry.
The current environment minister Md. Shahab Uddin may lose responsibility due to age. Saber Hossain Chowdhury, Prime Minister`s Special Envoy for Climate Affairs, can be seen in this role.
Besides, Awami League`s joint general secretary AFM Bahauddin Nasim may get the responsibility as the state minister of the home ministry. On the other hand, a newly elected member of parliament from Khulna can get the job as state minister of labor ministry.
Several senior leaders of the party are thinking that, Awami League presidium member Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya may get the responsibility of information and research secretary, Salim Mahmud Mohammad as executive member and Mohammad Ali Arafat may get the responsibility of the ministry.
Three former bureaucrats elected for Awami League, former PSC chairman Dr. Sadiq, former Cabinet Secretary Abul Kalam Azad and Sajjad Hossain are being considered for important ministries. More than one of them will get the responsibility of proper ministry.
Several responsible leaders said that Abdus Sabur can get the responsibility of the Ministry of Science and Technology. Simin Hossain Rimi or the general secretary of Krishak League Umme Kulsum Smriti will take charge of the Ministry of Women and Child Affairs. Besides, among the selected celebrities and youths, the State Minister or Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Youth and Sports or Cultural Affairs may be given the responsibility.
Although there are rumors that current Education Minister Dipu Moni will lose the ministry, Deputy Minister Mahibul Hasan Chowdhury Naufel will be in her place. Minister of State for Water Resources Zahid Faruq may get full ministry. Besides, Deputy Minister Enamul Haque Shamim may be promoted.
