Due to Bangladesh‍‍`s one-day official mourning tomorrow (18 December) in observance of Kuwait‍‍`s Emir, Sheikh Nawaf al-Ahmad al-Sabah, the BNP has rescheduled their previously scheduled dawn-to-dusk hartal from Monday to Tuesday.

Through a virtual press briefing, the party‍‍`s Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi told reporters of the decision.

He said, ‍‍`Since the Emir of Kuwait Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah died, state mourning has been declared. For this reason, instead of tomorrow, BNP and likeminded parties will hold strike program on December 19.

Earlier on 17 December, BNP announced the hartal amid a home ministry instruction to the returning officers to prevent political gatherings, rallies, and similar programmes from 18 December until the end of the 12th parliamentary election, slated for 7 January.

The BNP is taking these measures in an attempt to achieve several demands, including the resignation of the government, the conduct of elections under a non-partisan government, the release of party leaders and activists, and an end to harassment against party members.
