Karnaphuli Ship Builders Limited wants to launch a passenger ship for Hajj pilgrims of Bangladesh, to provide them affordable trip packages.
The company say that it will take 10 days by ship to reach Jeddah Port in Saudi Arabia from Chittagong Port.
The total time of travelling including Hajj formalities will be within 37 days. The ship journey will cost one to one and a half lakh taka which is lesser than plane fair.
Karnafuly Ship Builders Ltd, one of the largest privately-owned shipbuilding companies in Bangladesh.
The company has requested the Ministry of Shipping for permission to operate ships by sea.
On January 29, an inter-ministerial meeting was held regarding the proposal.
In the meeting presided over by Shipping Secretary Mustafa Kamal, he said that travelling by sea will enable Hajj pilgrims to perform their prayers in the ship without any inconvenience which, perhaps, is not always possible while travelling by air.
Some say going for Hajj by ship have various challenges. But it is still not certain whether the Saudi Arabian government will allow the sea route or not.
