Metro rail to be opened once PM gives schedule

The part of metro rail from Diabari to Agargaon will be officially opened in the fourth week of December.

Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) Managing Director M A N Siddique said that preparations are underway for that purpose.

He came up with the disclosure at media tour at the Diabari Metro Rail Media Center on Monday.

M A N Siddique said, “Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the metro rail. Schedule has already been sought from the premier. The dreamt project will be opened any day once she gives the schedule. Though, final schedule of inauguration has yet not been fixed from Prime Minister Office (PMO). However, it will be opened this month.”

He further said, “The metro rail will run on limited scale in the beginning days. Passengers will be carried on less than the capacity. Number of trains will be less. The trains will wait for much time at every station. After three months, the train will run with its full capacity.”

Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader had said in the last September that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasin will open the MRT Line-6 of the metro rail in the month of victory (December).

According to the chart, per kilometer fare was fixed at Tk 5 with minimum fare at Tk 20 and maximum at Tk 100.
