DNCC carrying out intensive drive to combat dengue outbreak: Taposh

Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh today said the city corporation has intensified its efforts to combat the dengue outbreak as the mosquito-borne disease has already gripped the country, reports BSS.

"We are incorporating community people to keep clean inside and outside houses and other infrastructures aiming to destroy breeding grounds of Aedes mosquito to rein in the ongoing dengue outbreak," he told journalists here, an official release said.

Taposh today said dengue prevention campaign is being conducted in red-marked areas to prevent the spread of dengue disease in city corporation areas.

"If more than 10 patients‍‍` tests positive for dengue in a week in a specific ward, that ward has been declared ‍‍`red-marked‍‍` and a day-long special combing operation is being conducted in the areas," the DSCC mayor added.

As part of combing operation, the city corporation conducted drive in Kalimandir area at Basabo in the city.

Taposh said, "We have engaged all levels of people including owners of houses, business, religious organizations establishment and other infrastructures to destroy breeding sources of Aedes mosquito."

Nine dengue patients died and 1,960 were admitted to different hospitals in the country during the last 24 hours till 8 am today.

"This year, 537 deaths, the highest in a year since dengue was detected in 2000, were reported from dengue disease while 281 died last year," a press release of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said.

With the new cases, the total number of patients rose to 1,12,184 the statement said, adding: "Some 10,3411 patients were released from different hospitals this year of the total patients."
