BGB seizes valuable snake venom at Birampur border

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has recovered nearly crores worth of snake venom while being smuggled into India through Birampur border in Dinajpur.

However, BGB could not arrest anyone involved in this incident. BGB Ghasuria Camp Commander Naib Subedar Shahjahan Sarkar has confirmed the recovery of snake venom.

He said, ‍‍`BGB got secret information that snake venom is being smuggled into India through the border area in the dark of night. Based on that news, BGB members took a cautious position in Ghasuria Eidga field area. Later, when a suspect started passing through that area, the BGB signaled him to stop. When he tried to escape after receiving the signal, BGB members chased him. At that time, he dropped a bottle and ran away. Later, snake venom was found in an abandoned glass bottle. However, it was not possible to arrest anyone in this incident. The estimated value of recovered snake venom is around Rs. The snake poisons have been sent to Joypurhat 20 BGB battalion for testing.

The BGB members of Ghasuria camp recovered them in an abandoned state from the Eidgaon field area next to sub-pillar No. 1 of Main Pillar-289 of Ghasuria border of upazila on Tuesday around 3:30 pm.


Commander of Joypurhat 20 BGB Battalion Lt. Col. Tanjilur Rahman said, ‍‍`BGB members of Ghasuria camp conducted a raid at night and recovered a large amount of snake poison. Necessary legal action will be taken after testing whether the poisons are genuine or fake.
