Due to the alleged beating and torture of two leaders of the ruling party`s student wing at Shahbagh police station in Dhaka, additional deputy commissioner (ADC) Harun or Rashid has been suspended.
A notification was released in this regard on Monday afternoon signed by Senior Secretary Md Mustafizur Rahman of Public Security Division under Home Ministry.
According to the circular, ADC Harun had been suspended in accordance with Section 39 (1) of the Government Service Law, 2018.
A three-member committee was first formed on Monday afternoon to investigate the torture claim.
Additionally, the committee was instructed to provide its findings in two working days.
In response to the torture of two leaders of the ruling party`s student wing at Shahbagh police station, the president and general secretary of the Bangladesh Chhatra League paid a visit to the headquarters of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) on Monday.
A day earlier, Harun faced transfer from the DMP`s Ramna Division to the Armed Police Battalion (APBn).
He was previously relieved of his duties and sent to the DMP`s Public Order Management Division on Sunday as a result of claims that he was responsible for the assault of two Chhatra League Central Committee leaders.
The incident reportedly took place on Saturday when ADC Harun picked two Chhatra League leaders up to the Shahbagh police station.
Anwar Hossain Nayeem, the president of the Dhaka University (DU) Fazlul Huq Muslim Hall unit and the central organizing secretary of the Chhatra League, and Sharif Ahmed Munim, the central science affairs secretary and general secretary of the DU`s Dr Muhammad Shahidullah Hall unit, make up the duo.
According to media reports, the duo went to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) premises to `catch` another lady police official of 33rd BCS batch `red-handed` with Harun.
The female official`s husband, a BCS admin cadre officer approached Nayeem and Munim for this task over his wife`s `extra marital affair`. They `really caught them` and confront Harun. Later, Harun call his force from Shahbagh police station and picked the duo up to the police station.
Nayeem lost five to six teeth from the front, after the alleged torture. However, 31st BCS batch police officer Harun denied the claims against him.
