Typhoon Rai: Death toll jumped at 375; landslide, flood feared

The death toll in Super Typhoon Rai in Philippines reached at 375, BBC reports quoting police officials.

According to the law enforcing agencies, the typhoon left at least 500 residents injured while 56 are missing. About 4 lakh people were evacuated to the shelter camps.

Typhoon Rai hit the south and central Philippines on Thursday with maximum sustained speed of 195 kmph. Rescuers said, the storm grimly shattered the affected areas.

Officials say, it has become very tough to address the damage due to the storm as the communication links are snapped in various parts of the country.

Meanwhile, experts are now fearing of landslide and flash flood triggered by Rai leaving the locals amid fresh concern of fatalities.

“Many areas lost power connectivity. Communication links are snapped. Water crisis became severe. Homesteads, hospitals, educational institutions and community homes are torn apart due to the storm,” Philippines Red Cross boss Richard Gordon told to BBC.
