Conflict continues in Sudan despite a 72-hour ceasefire

The war has been going on for almost two weeks between the army and paramilitary forces in the East African country of Sudan. More than four hundred people lost their lives. The two parties agreed to a 72-hour ceasefire after intensive diplomatic efforts by neighboring countries, as well as the United States, the United Kingdom, and the United Nations. However, there are reports of massive clashes within the ceasefire.

Earlier, a 72-hour ceasefire allowed foreigners to leave Sudan safely. During this time several countries tried to evacuate their citizens.

Meanwhile, about one and a half thousand Bangladeshis are trapped in the conflict in the country. Those among them who want to return to the country have been asked to contact the hotline number of the Bangladesh Embassy in Khartoum.

This information was informed through a post on the Facebook page of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs yesterday.

The hotline numbers are-

Md. Ikramul Haque (Third Secretary)

+234 909 755 1790

Md. Jahangir Alam (Administrative Officer)

+8801737125349

Earlier on Wednesday, the charge of the affairs of the Bangladesh Mission in Sudan, Tarek Ahmed said, "The security and safety situation is still unstable in the area where the Bangladesh Embassy and Bangladesh House are located. Our personnel have not been able to enter the embassy premises so far. Arrangements are being made to evacuate the expatriate Bangladeshis in Sudan."

State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Shahriar Alam said that it has been decided to start the process of bringing Bangladeshi citizens staying in Sudan safely back to Bangladesh through other countries. The Bangladesh Embassy in Khartoum has already started spreading this message among the Bangladeshis staying there. Bangladeshis staying in Sudan will be brought back.
