The government intends to purchase 300 electric double-decker air-conditioned (AC) buses from India to enrich the state-run Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC).
The development was come out during a Sunday courtesy call by Dr. Binoy George, the deputy high commissioner of India to Bangladesh, to Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader at the minister's secretariat office in Dhaka, according to a press release.
According to the media statement, the BRTC would buy 300 electric-powered double-decker AC buses through a line of credit (LOC) agreement with India.
At the discussion, the minister also asked the Indian government to send 100 electric buses to the metropolitan areas of Dhaka and Chittagong initially this year.
In order to reduce carbon dioxide emissions, the government is striving to pass the electric motor vehicle registration and operation policy-2023, according to Quader, who is also the general secretary of the ruling Awami League.
