Dhaka will buy defensive equipment from Delhi

Indian Foreign Minister Dr S. Jaishankar shared this photo from his Facebook handle on February 2, 2023 under the caption

Foreign Minister Hasan Mahmud said that security cooperation with India was "on an upswing" and that Bangladesh will buy defence equipment from India.

He said this in response to a question on whether Bangladesh is considering buying Light Combat Aircraft Tejas, Dhruv choppers, and other military gear developed in India.

As he is not a minister of defense, Hasan stated he is unable to comment on technical matters.

"But we do have defence purchases from India and we shall have defence purchases from India," he stated to reporters on Thursday.

A $500 million soft credit was granted to Bangladesh by India during Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina‍‍`s visit to New Delhi in 2017.
