Government will establish a comprehensive list of essential goods with fixed prices for Ramadan, State Minister for Commerce, Ahsanul Islam Titu, announced.

Mr. Titu made this statement during the signing ceremony of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) and "Prodintorg" a Russian state-owned joint stock company for the procurement of agricultural products at the Secretariat on Sunday, March 10.

"Sufficient amount of products are stocked. There is no shortage. The volatility of the rice market has decreased. The price of oil has been determined,” he claimed.

Stating that the market monitoring will start from the same day, the state minister claimed that the price of oil cannot be increased in any way.

The state minister also informed that onions will arrive in Bangladesh within 2 days from India.

"If onions come from India, the price will also come down." He added.

Claiming that products are available in super-shops less than the fixed price, the state minister stated, "during my visit to the retail markets, I observed prices were two to three taka higher than the fixed rates. These retail markets are temporary; we need to draw up strategies to regulate them effectively."

"Initially our objective was only one - to ensure supply, in no way should there be a shortage in supply. By God‍‍`s grace we have been able to ensure supply. Inshallah we will increase market monitoring.” he said.
