Avail Paturia route instead Shimulia to avoid extra pressure: Khalid

State Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury has urged the transport staffers to use Paturia route to relieve the vehicular pressure at Shimulia (Mawa) route.

The minister said, there are 10 ferries at Shimulia terminal and 21 at Paturia and four at Aricha.

The state minister came up with the remarks while speaking to reporters after inspecting Shimulia ferry and launch terminal in Munshiganj on Friday.

He said, “The Shimulia route has been experiencing acute pressure of vehicles and commuters since Friday morning. However, the system is being maintained and monitored appropriately. As per the previous instructions, large vehicles are not being allowed to cross the river onboard ferry in Shimulia.”

Khalid Mahmud said, “Despite the observance holy Shab-e-Qadr, officials are vigilant to ensure safe travel ahead of the Eid festival. People are heading home with festivity. I did not find any boredom at their faces.”

Referring to the safety of Padma Bridge he said, considering the safety of the bridge 10 good-quality ferries have been engaged in Shimulia ghat. There will be no problem at Shimulia ghat if the bridge is opened in the coming months.
