Stern actions if factories opened despite restrictions: Farhad

Stern action will be taken if any factory remains operative amid the restrictions which were declared nationwide aiming to contain coronavirus infection, said state minister for public administration Farhad Hossain.

He said this while talking to newsmen after the regular cabinet meeting on Monday (July 26).

Asked on reported operation at multiple industrial factories the state minister said, “We are monitoring who reopens factory. If allegation of factory reopening proved, legal actions must be taken accordingly. When people are getting out of home, they say that they are going to workplace. Attempts have been taken to scrutinise the vicinity of it.”

“There is no plan to open factories. Due to halting production in RMG and other export worthy factories, movement of hundreds of thousands of workers have been resisted,” Farhad said. “However, there are other reasons too why people are coming out of home. If anyone comes out unnecessarily, legal actions are being taken. Besides, people involved in emergency services including hospitals are moving without any hindrance.”

On July 13, the cabinet division issued a gazette notification imposing a set of restrictions from 6am July 23 to August 5 midnight.

As many as 23 directives were mentioned in the notification which was signed by cabinet division deputy secretary Md. Rezaul Islam.

All industrial factories were asked to remain closed amid the 14-day lockdown, ‘tougher than ever’.
