Restrictions extended, markets to reopen August 11

Government has extended the ongoing restrictions in a bid to check the coronavirus situation in the country.

The tougher lockdown, which was earlier declared till August 5, has been prolonged till August 10.

Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque disclosed the matter after the decision was taken during an inter-ministerial meeting held at the secretariat on Tuesday (August 3).

“Health ministry will vaccinate one crore people in next week. Some 5-7 centers will be installed at every ward-union to ensure the mass immunisation campaign. People do not need to run after vaccine rather we will reach doorsteps,” AKM Mozammel Haque said.

“The mass inoculation programme will be launched at 14 thousand vaccine centers across the country. Senior citizens will get priority as they are most vulnerable in the pandemic. We urge all transport workers to take the jab. None will be allowed to come office without immunisation. Everyone must have vaccine certificate,” the minister said.

Earlier the government imposed 14-day Covid-19 restrictions from July 1-14. However, the guidelines were relaxed since July 15 ahead of Eid-ul-Adha. Later, the nation entered another phase of stricter lockdown from July 23 to August 5 midnight. Meanwhile, all export-related factories reopened on Sunday (August 1).
